Privacy Policy

Introduction
FocusRace ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our Chrome extension and related services.
Our core principle is privacy by design. We built FocusRace to enable anonymous competition on the global leaderboard without requiring personal information or account creation.
Information We Collect
1. Locally Stored Data (Chrome Storage)
The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage APIs:
-
User ID: A randomly generated UUID created locally on your device. This is not linked to any personal information.
-
Display Name (Optional): You may choose to provide a display name, or use an automatically generated anonymous alias.
-
Anonymity Preference: Your choice to appear anonymously on the leaderboard.
-
Country (Optional): You may optionally provide your country for regional leaderboard filtering.
-
Timer Settings: Your preferred focus duration, short break, and long break times.
-
Timer State: Current timer status (stored locally only, never transmitted).
2. Data Transmitted to Our Servers
When you complete a Pomodoro session, the following minimal data is sent to our servers to update the leaderboard:
-
Session Data: User ID, display name (or anonymous alias), anonymity status, focus minutes completed, and timestamp.
How We Use Information
We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:
- To maintain and display the global leaderboard rankings
- To calculate and display aggregate statistics (total focus hours, active users, etc.)
- To sync your settings across devices (if you use Chrome sync)
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage: Your user ID, display name, settings, and timer state are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage APIs. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly submit a session to the leaderboard.
Server Storage: Session data submitted to our servers is stored in a secure database. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- HMAC signature authentication for API requests
- Secure database access controls
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Privacy Rights
You have full control over your data:
-
Modify or Delete: You can change your display name, anonymity preference, or delete locally stored data at any time through the extension's settings.
-
Uninstall: Uninstalling the extension will remove all locally stored data. Leaderboard data on our servers will remain but will no longer be associated with your user ID.
-
Anonymous Mode: You can enable anonymous mode at any time to appear on the leaderboard without revealing your display name.
Third-Party Services
FocusRace does not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking services. We do not share your data with any third parties.
The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs and our own backend API for leaderboard functionality. All communication is direct between your browser and our servers.
Children's Privacy
FocusRace is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete such information.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
